Pet-Friendly Vacation Rental in Maryland: Bring Your Dog to the Chesapeake Bay

23-September-2026    Plan Your Stay

Anyone who travels with a dog knows there’s a big difference between a vacation rental that allows pets and a place where bringing your dog actually feels easy.

Sometimes “pet-friendly” means an elevator ride to one tiny patch of grass, a long list of warnings, and spending half the vacation figuring out what to do with your pup while everybody else has fun.

That isn’t really the rhythm here.

At Chesapeake Paradise, three of our waterfront accommodations welcome dogs, with room outside to walk and explore, water just steps away, a private pier, dog swimming, an outdoor rinse shower, and plenty for the humans to do, too.

Your dog can simply be part of the family getaway—the morning walk, coffee by the water, the afternoon outside while the kids check the crab pots, or a quiet evening when everybody is finally a little less rushed.

There’s enough here for everyone—from kids to grandparents to the dog—to find their own rhythm and slow down a little.

What Makes a Vacation Rental Truly Pet-Friendly?

For us, it starts with space.

Chesapeake Paradise sits on two waterfront acres rather than a small resort lot. Guests have access to open green space, a meadow, waterfront areas, and the pier. Dogs need to be responsibly controlled outdoors—more on that below—but there is room to walk, sniff, explore, and be outside without every potty break becoming an expedition.

Our guest manuals even include a dog bed among the supplies available to guests, along with an outdoor shower that can be used after a Bay swim.

One guest summed up the indoor part nicely after traveling with her dog: the home felt welcoming and pet-friendly inside while still giving everyone cozy spaces to relax together.

That's what we're after.

Not a "dog resort." Not a place built around pets instead of people.

A real Chesapeake Bay getaway where the dog can simply come, too.

Which Chesapeake Paradise Stays Welcome Dogs?

Three of our main accommodations are current dog-friendly choices.

The Waterfront Cottage is an especially easy fit for families traveling with dogs. It has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a full kitchen, fireplace, water views, and room for up to eight guests. Dogs are welcome, and the Cottage sits close to the water with easy access to the surrounding outdoor space.

Chesapeake Paradise House is the larger option for extended families and groups, with 6+ bedrooms, four bathrooms, multiple gathering spaces, and room for up to 13 guests. Its current listing identifies both "pets allowed" and "pets allowed on request."

Chesapeake Paradise Lite gives smaller groups much of the House experience in a 4–5 bedroom configuration, and its current amenities also include pets allowed.

The Sunrise Suite is not dog-friendly, and the Flat Plus generally is not, although an exception for the Flat may sometimes be possible. If you're traveling with a dog, it is much easier to start with the Cottage, House, or CP Lite rather than trying to make one of the smaller suites fit.

Why Families With Dogs Love the Waterfront Cottage

There is something pleasantly old-school about a family vacation where the big decisions of the day are whether to go out in the kayak, see if anything wandered into the crab pot, or make s'mores after dinner.

The Cottage makes that kind of trip easy.

You can cook breakfast in the full kitchen while somebody else takes the dog outside. Kids can head toward the pier with an adult to fish or crab. Someone can find a chair by the water. Someone else can read inside with the view right there through the windows.

Then everybody seems to reconvene naturally.

One recent guest came with three generations and a dog and wrote that everyone found something fun to do. Another said the dogs loved watching ospreys and herons fly over the water.

That is a much more accurate picture of Chesapeake Paradise than an amenities checklist.

It isn't everyone marching around doing the same activity at the same time.

It is people spreading out a little, finding their thing, and then coming back together.

Can Dogs Swim at Chesapeake Paradise?

Yes. Dogs can swim from the Chesapeake Paradise waterfront and pier.

The current pet policy asks guests to rinse and dry dogs before bringing them back into the house, and there is an outdoor shower for exactly that kind of post-water cleanup. The bottom near the property can be muddy, which is another reason the rinse-off is useful.

Of course, use the same judgment you would anywhere around open water. Conditions change, dogs have different swimming abilities, and the Bay deserves respect.

But on the right day, watching a water-loving dog charge toward the creek while everyone else is sitting nearby can be one of those ridiculously simple vacation moments that ends up being everybody's favorite.

What Can the Rest of the Family Do While the Dog Comes Along?

This is where Chesapeake Paradise has an advantage over many pet-friendly vacation homes: you do not have to leave the property every morning to manufacture a vacation.

Guests can kayak or canoe, fish from the pier, try crabbing, swim or float when conditions are right, play lawn games, relax in the hot tub, sit by the fire, watch birds, or simply pull a chair toward the water. The guest manuals include kayaks and canoe access, fishing and crabbing gear, lawn games, fire pits, and plenty of room outdoors.

That makes a difference when you have several generations together.

A teenager doesn't have to want the same vacation as Grandma. The person who wants to kayak doesn't need to convince everyone else. Someone can take the dog out while somebody else starts dinner.

You have room for togetherness without having to be together every second.

And if you do feel like heading out, we’ve gathered our favorite nearby sightseeing and local attractions, restaurants, and groceries, wellness, and local shopping to make exploring the area easy.

A pet-friendly summer day on the Chesapeake Bay

Morning here can be almost comically simple.

Coffee. Dog outside. Bare feet on the grass. Birds making a surprising amount of noise for that hour of the morning.

Maybe someone is already down near the water.

Later, a kayak gets dragged out. Somebody decides the crab pots need checking. Towels appear. The dog is watching absolutely everything.

By late afternoon the light shifts, the water changes color, and plans tend to get less ambitious. Dinner might happen outside. Someone starts a fire. The dog has finally decided there is nothing left on the property that urgently needs to be sniffed.

This is one reason our brand has always been much more about the feeling of the stay than a long list of features. Chesapeake Paradise was built around water, sky, nature, thoughtful comfort, and the kind of time together that starts to feel less rushed.

The dog just fits into that.

Want an off-leash dog outing? Head toward Annapolis

If your dog needs a little more serious running around, Quiet Waters Park in Annapolis offers dedicated off-leash dog areas, including separate dog-park sections for smaller and larger dogs, plus a dog beach where dogs can swim off leash within the designated area. Outside those designated areas, dogs must be leashed.

It can make a nice half-day outing: give the dog a proper romp, explore some of Annapolis, then come back to the quieter pace by the Bay.

That mix—easy access to Annapolis and the surrounding region without having to sleep in the middle of it—is part of what guests repeatedly tell us they appreciate about Chesapeake Paradise.

What Is the Chesapeake Paradise Pet Policy?

As of September 2026, the pet fee is $18 per night, per dog. Guests bringing a puppy or cat should contact Chesapeake Paradise in advance. Dogs should be tied or on leash outdoors unless they are reliably controlled by clicker or voice, and they should be leashed when getting out of the car because neighboring cats can be very interesting to even the best-intentioned dog. Dogs should not enter neighboring property.

After swimming, dogs should be rinsed and dried before going inside.

That may sound like a lot of detail for a vacation blog, but clear expectations are part of being genuinely pet-friendly. People traveling with dogs would rather know the real setup before they arrive.

And so would the dog, probably.

Is Chesapeake Paradise Right for Every Dog?

Probably not—and that's worth saying.

Chesapeake Paradise is peaceful by design, and sound carries easily across the water and open land. It’s best suited to dogs who can settle in with the family and enjoy the outdoors without frequent barking. Because there may be other guests, pets, and neighbors nearby, dogs with a known history of biting or attacking people or other animals are not a good fit for the property.

We don't want to advertise "pet-friendly" so broadly that someone arrives expecting something the property isn't.

What we do offer is a dog-friendly waterfront setting with room to walk, water to explore, places for families to gather, and homes where guests regularly tell us their dogs felt like part of the trip.

A September 2026 Cottage guest put it this way:

“It’s hard to find such a great home that allows dogs, so close to the water and everything you need just like home.”

That's the sweet spot.

A Maryland Family Getaway Where Nobody Has to Stay Home

Traveling with a dog usually means one more layer of logistics.

Who will watch them? Is the rental actually pet-friendly? Is there anywhere to walk? Will the kids have enough to do? Will the dog make everyone else's vacation harder?

At Chesapeake Paradise, much of that gets simpler.

Bring the family. Bring the dog. Bring the book you keep meaning to finish, the crab seasoning somebody insists is better than everyone else's, and maybe a sweatshirt for sitting by the water after dark.

Then see what happens when there is a little more sky, a little more room, and considerably less need to hurry.

Explore the pet-friendly Chesapeake Paradise House, Chesapeake Paradise Lite, or Waterfront Cottage, and see which stay fits your people—and your dog.
