A Chesapeake Bay Getaway for Families, Friends, and Time Together

There is a moment that happens not long after people arrive at Chesapeake Paradise.

The bags come inside. Someone walks toward the water. A child notices the kayaks. Someone else finds a chair facing the Bay. The whole group begins to settle.

No one has to announce it.

The pace just changes.

At Chesapeake Paradise, a Maryland waterfront getaway is not only about having a beautiful place to sleep. It is about what happens when water, sky, quiet, and enough room to breathe begin working on people all at once.

Families reconnect. People open up. Time together feels less rushed.

That is the real heart of a waterfront stay here.

Close to Annapolis and Washington, DC—Yet a World Away

Chesapeake Paradise is a peaceful waterfront micro-resort in Deale and Churchton, Maryland, on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay.

It feels quiet and tucked away, yet it is close enough for an easy getaway from Annapolis, Washington, DC, Baltimore, and Northern Virginia.

For people who live in the region, that matters.

You do not need a flight, a complicated itinerary, or a week of travel planning. You can leave the traffic and noise behind and arrive somewhere that feels much farther away than it really is.

The first evening may include nothing more complicated than carrying a drink toward the water, watching the light change, and realizing your shoulders have dropped.

That is the kind of luxury Chesapeake Paradise offers: breathing room, quiet mornings, uninterrupted skies, and time with the people who matter.

Five Unique Ways to Stay at Chesapeake Paradise

Chesapeake Paradise is not a single rental with one fixed layout.

It includes five unique stays across two waterfront properties, making it possible to choose a space that fits a couple, a family, a group of friends, or a larger multigenerational stay.

Chesapeake Paradise House

The full Chesapeake Paradise House offers six to seven bedrooms and four bathrooms, along with spacious living areas, waterfront views, porches, decks, and room for people to gather comfortably.

It works especially well for larger families, multigenerational trips, reunions, friend groups, and small retreats.

One of the things guests appreciate most is that the house offers places to come together and places to step away.

Some people may be playing games or talking in the living room. Someone else may be reading near a window. A few people may be outside near the water.

Everyone can still feel connected without needing to do the same thing at the same time.

Chesapeake Paradise Lite

Chesapeake Paradise Lite offers much of the main house while excluding the separate upstairs Flat and Solarium apartment.

It can be a strong fit for families and groups that want generous space without needing the entire house.

Guests still enjoy the waterfront setting, screened porch, outdoor areas, and the warmth of a home created for real time together.

The Sunrise Suite

The Sunrise Suite is a spacious king suite with an en suite bathroom, soaking tub, kitchenette, private balcony, and beautiful water views.

It works well for couples, solo travelers, or anyone wanting a quieter stay with room to rest.

The large windows and waterfront setting allow the light, weather, and changing sky to become part of the experience.

Morning begins with water outside the window.

Evening may end with moonlight across the Bay.

The Sky-Lit Flat and Solarium

The original upstairs Flat was the first Chesapeake Paradise space intentionally renovated for guests in 2009.

It is a private upstairs apartment with skylights, a kitchenette, marble bath, separate entrance, and the adjoining Solarium bedroom with broad water views.

That original Flat later became known as Maryland’s most wished-for Airbnb by Travel + Leisure.

It remains a favorite for couples, solo retreats, writers, creatives, and people who want privacy, light, quiet, and a place to settle down.

The Waterfront Wonder Cottage

The Waterfront Wonder Cottage offers three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a full open-concept kitchen, a fireplace, and a warm cottage atmosphere.

It feels updated without losing the character that makes it cozy.

The waterfront bedroom includes a bay window with a sitting area where guests can read, watch the water, or simply do very little for a while.

For many people, that is exactly the point.

A Waterfront Vacation for Families and Friends

The best family and friend getaways are rarely built around a packed schedule.

They are built around ordinary moments that finally have room to happen.

Coffee outside before everyone wakes up.

Someone teaching a child how to hold a fishing rod.

A group trying to figure out the crab pots.

Lunch that turns into an afternoon conversation.

Children running across the lawn.

Someone calling everyone outside because the sky has started changing.

These are not dramatic moments.

They are the moments people remember.

Chesapeake Paradise gives families and friends enough space to let those moments happen naturally.

There are lawns for games, water for paddling, places to sit outside, fire pits for cooler evenings, and indoor spaces that still feel connected to the view.

Guests often tell us the property feels comfortable, welcoming, and easy to settle into. They mention the peaceful setting, the water views, the room to gather, and the feeling that the homes were prepared with care.

Curious what it actually feels like? Read the stories and experiences shared on our guest reviews page.

What Can You Do During a Chesapeake Bay Getaway?

Some guests arrive ready to kayak, canoe, fish, crab, swim, or explore nearby towns.

Others arrive intending to do very little.

Both approaches work well here.

Depending on the season and conditions, guests may enjoy:

~Kayaking or canoeing from the pier
~Fishing and crabbing
~Swimming or floating near the dock
~Sitting by the water with coffee
~Watching osprey, herons, geese, and other birds
~Fire pit evenings and s’mores
~Lawn games and family time outside
~Quiet mornings in the hot tub
~Sunrises, sunsets, moonlight, and stars over the water

The point is not to squeeze everything in. The point is to let the setting change the way the day feels.

The Chesapeake Paradise brand is built around presence, peace, connection, wonder, and joy returning naturally once people slow down enough to notice where they are.

Why the Chesapeake Bay Feels Different

An ocean getaway can feel dramatic and energetic.

The Chesapeake Bay often feels softer.

The water can become calm enough to mirror the sky. Light stretches across the surface. Boats pass at a distance. Birds move through the morning quietly.

There is more stillness.

That stillness creates space for people to notice one another again.

Conversations become more real.

People talk in ways they do not always make time for at home.

Sometimes everyone gathers outside. Sometimes one person slips away with a book. Sometimes people simply sit beside one another without needing to fill the silence.

Photos can capture the water and sky.

They cannot fully capture the feeling.

The skies are such a meaningful part of the experience here that we created a separate guide to Chesapeake Bay sunsets at Chesapeake Paradise—including why the light, reflections, and stillness can feel so different from an ocean sunset.

A Weekend Getaway From DC That Does Not Feel Rushed

One reason Chesapeake Paradise works so well for guests from Washington, DC, Annapolis, Baltimore, and Northern Virginia is that the trip does not require days of travel.

You can arrive for a weekend and still have time to settle in.

But many guests discover that two nights go quickly.

The first evening is often spent arriving and exploring. The second day is when people finally begin to stop checking the time.

Longer stays create room for slower mornings, flexible meals, weather changes, kayaking when the water is calm, and time to enjoy the property without trying to fit everything into one afternoon.

A longer stay is not about doing more.

It is about feeling less rushed while doing it.

A Maryland Waterfront Rental in Every Season

Summer brings swimming, kayaking, crabbing, long evenings, warm dock boards, and the kind of happy tiredness that comes from sunshine and time outside.

Fall brings cooler air, softer light, colorful trees, and quieter days.

Winter may be the most sparkly season. The low angle of the sun scatters light across the water, and the views remain beautiful even when guests spend more time indoors.

Spring brings new green, birds returning, flowers opening, and the feeling of the whole property waking up again.

Each season offers a different reason to come.

Late fall, winter, and early spring can also be especially meaningful for longer stays.

People have come to Chesapeake Paradise to complete writing projects, welcome new babies, move through personal transitions, work remotely near the water, or simply live closer to nature for a while.

Booking Direct at Chesapeake Paradise

Chesapeake Paradise first became known through Airbnb, beginning with the original upstairs Flat.

Today, guests can book directly through ChesapeakeParadise.com.

Booking direct allows you to see the different stays, compare which space fits your group, check the calendar, and communicate with the Chesapeake Paradise team.

You are not booking with a large, anonymous rental company.

You are staying at a place that has been built, renovated, shaped, and cared for over many years by a real owner and team who genuinely want guests to feel at home.

That personal care appears again and again in guest reviews, which frequently mention Shawn’s responsiveness, warmth, helpfulness, thoughtful preparation, and attention to the guest experience.

Current Late-Summer and September Openings

A few unexpected openings have appeared.

Chesapeake Paradise House and Chesapeake Paradise Lite are currently available:

August 7–13
August 16–September 4

Both houses also have additional availability after Labor Day in September.

Availability changes, so the best place to see what is currently open is visiting each accomodation's calendar.
