There’s something timeless about a cottage by the water. But when it’s both welcoming and newly refreshed, the experience becomes even more memorable. That’s what inspired the recent redesign of The Cottage at Chesapeake Paradise—to elevate its charm while preserving its cozy soul.
This isn’t a showy renovation. It’s a love note to guests who return season after season, and to future visitors seeking peace, comfort, and a stunning view in every direction. From the newly added bay window to a fresh color palette and intentionally chosen textures, The Cottage now feels even more like home… only better.
Whether you're here for a solo writing retreat, a romantic weekend, or a 1–6 month waterfront stay, this makeover was made with you in mind.
Over the years, guests have told us what they loved about The Cottage: its privacy, cheerful yellow exterior, welcoming energy, and postcard-worthy views of Rockhold Creek. But like any beloved space, it was time for a glow-up.
The goal wasn’t just about aesthetics — it was about deepening the sense of calm, beauty, and functionality that makes Chesapeake Paradise special.
Many longer-term guests (from traveling professionals to midwinter soul-searchers) were choosing The Cottage for more than a quick getaway. It had become a temporary home for some and a heartfelt memory for many. This redesign honors that.
The showstopper of the remodel is the brand-new bay window in the main living area.
Facing directly onto the waterfront, it lets in expansive light and amplifies the connection to nature. Morning sun spills across the floor. Birds glide by at eye level. Guests have started calling it their favorite writing or coffee nook.
The built-in bench makes it the perfect place to curl up with a book or simply gaze out at the creek as boats drift by.
Inside, the space now glows with soft, natural tones — sandy beiges, warm whites, sea-glass greens, and a few deep navy accents that echo the water just outside.
The new color scheme isn’t just pretty; it feels grounding. Walls and trim were repainted, and subtle textile changes (like throws, pillows, and rugs) were chosen to reflect the serene, slow-living experience Chesapeake Paradise is known for.
The working fireplace remains a centerpiece of the main room — but now it’s complemented by warm, ambient lighting that makes the space glow at any time of day.
Twinkle lights, updated lamps, and new window treatments soften the edges of the space and make evenings here feel especially magical — whether you’re sipping wine by the fire or playing cards after dinner.
Every seating choice — from the plush sectional to the dining chairs — was evaluated for comfort and flow. The result is a space where lounging feels intuitive, and dining feels connected, whether it’s two people or a group of six.
The layout now invites movement between the open-plan kitchen, dining area, and living space without feeling cramped or overly open.
