For a day trip that’s both awe-inspiring and family-friendly, Calvert Cliffs State Park is a must-visit during your stay at Chesapeake Paradise. Located just under an hour south, this natural wonder features 24 miles of fossil-rich cliffs dating back 15 million years, revealing remains of prehistoric sharks, whales, rays, and even giant birds with wingspans like small airplanes.
One of the most exciting draws is the sandy beach, where visitors often comb the shoreline for fossilized shark teeth—and many walk away with a pocketful of ancient treasures. A favorite photo-worthy find!
The park also offers hiking trails, fishing, and both freshwater and tidal marshland to explore. Kids love the recycled tire playground, and the peaceful woodland setting makes it ideal for picnicking or nature walks.
Admission: Cash only – $5 per vehicle (Maryland residents), $7 for out-of-state visitors.
Tip: Bring a baggie and a sharp eye—you never know what prehistoric surprise might be hiding in the sand!
